بينما نحتفل اليوم باليوم الدولي للمرأة، أصبحت الحياة صعبة وبائسة للغاية. لقد ساءت حياتنا كنساء في زامبيا أكثر من أي وقت مضى.
من الصعب توفير الطعام على المائدة، لا توجد أدوية في العيادات والمستشفيات، يموت شعبنا قبل الأوان، تكاليف النقل مرتفعة للغاية، والقائمة تطول.
ولكن ما هو أكثر إحباطًا، هو أن من هم في السلطة اليوم ليس لديهم خطة واضحة لإخراجنا من هذه المعاناة. إنهم عالقون وليس لديهم مخرج.
لكن كما يذكرنا دائمًا الدكتور فريد ميمبي: "تشتد العتمة أحيانًا، لكن الصباح يأتي دائمًا".
وفي شهر المرأة، يجب ألا ننسى أن النساء هنا وفي كل مكان هن مفتاح التنمية الحقيقية والتحولية. وكما قال الرفيق توماس سانكارا ذات مرة: "لا توجد ثورة حقيقية دون تحرير المرأة".
إذا كان لهذا البلد أن ينجح ويتجاوز هذه الأزمة الحالية، فإن القيادة بحاجة إلى وضع النساء في صلب جميع القطاعات الحيوية للتنمية. عندها فقط سنبدأ في رؤية تنمية ذات معنى وجودة، خاصة بالنسبة للعديد من النساء المكافحات من الطبقة العاملة.
يوم سعيد للمرأة، يا أخواتي ورفيقاتي!

While we celebrate International Women’s Day today, life has become so tough and miserable. Our life as women in Zambia has gotten worse.
It is hard to put food on the table, there is no medicine in clinics and hospitals, our people are dying prematurely, transport costs are extremely high and the list goes on.
What is, however, even more disheartening is that those in power today clearly do not have a plan to get us out of this misery. They are stuck and have no way out.
But as Dr Fred M'membe has always reminded us, "it gets dark sometimes but the morning comes". As we are in the women's month, what we should not forget is that women here and elsewhere are key to meaningful and transformative development. And as Comrade Thomas Sankara said once, "there is no true revolution without the liberation of women".
If this country is to succeed and get out of this current mess, there is need for the leadership of this country to centre women in all hey sectors of this country’s development. Only then will we begin to see meaningful, quality development, particularly for many struggling and working class women.
