The ancient city of Madurai is poised to witness a historic moment as the 24th Party Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) unfolds from April 2 to April 6, 2025. The city is abuzz with final preparations, adorned with red flags and brimming with revolutionary fervor, ready to welcome 819 delegates and observers from across the country.
The Grand Opening: April 2
The morning of April 2nd will mark the beginning of this momentous occasion at the Tamukkam Open Grounds. As the sun rises over Madurai, thousands of Red Volunteers will march in perfect formation, their disciplined rows creating a moving tapestry of revolutionary spirit. The air will resonate with revolutionary songs, and cultural performances will set the tone for the congress.
Torch and Flag Rallies: April 1
On the earlier day, April 1, five torch and flag rallies that have been traversing Tamil Nadu will converge at the venue, each carrying the legacy of martyrs who sacrificed for the people’s cause:
The Keezhvenmani Martyrs’ Flag Rally, honouring the agricultural labourers massacred in 1968.
The Salem Prison Martyrs’ Torch Rally, commemorating those who died fighting colonial oppression.
The Coimbatore Chinniyampalayam Martyrs’ Torch Rally, remembering the workers who fell to police brutality.
The Somu Sembu Student Martyrs’ Torch Rally, honouring young lives sacrificed for revolutionary ideals.
The Madurai Martyrs’ Torch Rally, paying homage to local heroes of the struggle.
As these rallies arrive on the evening of April 1, they will be welcomed by thunderous applause from thousands gathered at the venue. The ceremonial flag hoisting will follow, with the Party flag rising majestically against the Madurai sky.
On the evening of April 2, an exhibition dedicated to anti-fascism, India’s diversity, and the history of the Indian communist movement will open its doors. This exhibition will invite visitors to journey through the struggles and triumphs of the working class, offering a profound insight into the movement’s rich history.
The evening will then transform into a cultural celebration, with renowned actor-directors Samuthirakani and Sasikumar lending their voices to the revolutionary cause through performances that blend art with ideology, creating a powerful fusion of culture and politics that will inspire and energise the attendees.
Special Seminar on State Rights: April 3
The second day will witness the commencement of serious deliberations as delegates gather to discuss ideological positions and political strategies. A key highlight will be the special seminar on State Rights at Tamukkam Open Grounds.
This seminar promises to be a powerful demonstration of opposition unity, featuring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Karnataka Minister Byre Gowda. Their collective voices will challenge the central government’s assault on federal principles and the undemocratic actions of governors in opposition-ruled states.
Meanwhile, discussions will continue inside the Delegates’ Hall, named after Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, where critical discussions on contemporary political challenges will take place.
Days of Discussions: April 4-5
On April 4, the Congress will delve deeper into ideological questions and organisational matters. While serious discussions unfold inside, the evening will come alive with cultural performances by acclaimed director Vetrimaaran and versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi, whose cinematic works often reflect social consciousness.
April 5 will focus on resolutions and future plans of action. The Party will outline its course for the coming years, aiming to counter fascist forces and defend people’s rights. The cultural stage, named after KP Janaki Ammal, will host Prakash Raj, Mari Selvaraj, Se. Gnanavel, and Rohini – artists known for their progressive stance and socially relevant work.
The Grand Finale: April 6
The final day will witness a magnificent display of revolutionary solidarity. The morning will begin with the adoption of resolutions and the conclusion of the Congress proceedings at the venue named after Comrade Sitaram Yechury.
Then comes the most awaited event – a grand procession of 25,000 Red Volunteers marching through the streets of Madurai, transforming the ancient city into a vibrant sea of red. Their disciplined columns, resounding revolutionary slogans, and fluttering red flags will create an unforgettable spectacle.
The procession will culminate at the massive public meeting near Vandiyur Ring Road, named after Comrade N Sankaraiah, where an estimated two lakh participants will gather. Party State Secretary P Shanmugam will preside over this historic gathering, while Reception Committee Secretary and MP Su. Venkatesan will deliver the welcome address.
The people will then hear from Party Co-ordinator Prakash Karat, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Politbureau members Brinda Karat and G. Ramakrishnan, Reception Committee Chairman K. Balakrishnan, and Central Committee members U. Vasuki and P. Sampath. Their words will carry the congress’s message to the masses, igniting revolutionary spirit across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
As the Congress concludes, it will not merely mark the end of five days of deliberations but the beginning of a renewed struggle for people’s rights and democracy. At a time when divisive forces threaten the fabric of society, the 24th Party Congress stands as a beacon of hope and unity.

مسيرة علم شهداء كيژڤينماني، تكريمًا لعمال الزراعة الذين قُتلوا في مجزرة عام 1968.

مسيرة شعلة شهداء سجن سالم، إحياءً لذكرى من قضوا نحبهم في مواجهة القمع الاستعماري.

مسيرة شعلة شهداء شيننيامبالايام في كويمباتور، تذكيرًا بالعمال الذين سقطوا ضحايا لوحشية الشرطة.

مسيرة شعلة شهداء الطلاب سومو سمبو، تخليدًا للأرواح الشابة التي وهبت حياتها من أجل المبادئ الثورية.

سيشهد اليوم الأخير عرضًا مذهلًا للتضامن الثوري. ستبدأ صباحية 6 أبريل بتبني القرارات وختام جلسات المؤتمر في القاعة التي سُميت على اسم الرفيق سيتارام ييتشوري.
ثم تأتي اللحظة المرتقبة – مسيرة ضخمة يشارك فيها 25,000 متطوع أحمر يجوبون شوارع مادوراي، محولين المدينة العريقة إلى بحر نابض بالحياة من اللون الأحمر. ستعكس هتافاتهم الحماسية، وأعلامهم المرفرفة، وانضباطهم العسكري مشهدًا لن يُنسى.
ستنتهي المسيرة في التجمع الجماهيري الحاشد قرب طريق فانديو رينج، الذي سُمي على اسم الرفيق ن. شانكاريا، حيث سيجتمع حوالي مئتي ألف مشارك. سيرأس هذا الحدث التاريخي ب. شانموغام، سكرتير الحزب في الولاية، بينما سيلقي س. ڤينكاتيسان، سكرتير لجنة الاستقبال وعضو البرلمان، كلمة الترحيب.

سيظل إرث هذا المؤتمر التاريخي حيًا – في قلوب المشاركين، وفي النضالات القادمة. ومع غروب شمس 6 أبريل، ستكتب مادوراي فصلًا مجيدًا آخر في تاريخ الحركة الشيوعية الهندية، فصلًا سيتذكره الأجيال القادمة بكل فخر وإلهام.
