 CPI Extends Support to TVK to Uphold the Verdict and Protect Tamil Nadu’s Secular, Egalitarian Legacy

The people of Tamil Nadu have delivered a verdict in favour of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam led by C. Joseph Vijay. In a parliamentary democracy, the mandate of the people must be respected in both letter and spirit. The attempt by the BJP to create uncertainty through backchannel manoeuvres and by misusing the office of the Governor, instead of inviting the single largest party to form the government and prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly, is deeply undemocratic and disrespectful to the people. Questions of majority must be settled in the Assembly and not through political manipulation behind the walls of Raj Bhavan.

Tamil Nadu has a proud political and social legacy shaped by struggles for workers’ rights, communal harmony, rationalism, social justice, federalism and equality. These values are deeply rooted in the consciousness of the people of the state. The CPI is of the firm view that the politics and ideology of the RSS-BJP stand in opposition to this historic legacy and pose a serious threat to the social harmony, secular fabric and democratic character of Tamil Nadu. The people have rejected attempts to communalise and divide society and have voted with the expectation that a government reflecting this verdict must be formed. Legal technicalities and selective interpretations cannot be weaponised to create an opening for the BJP in a state where its divisive politics have been consistently rejected by the people. The CPI expects the incoming government led by the TVK to uphold and strengthen these historic values in governance and public life, and to remain committed to the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu.

It is with this understanding, and with the larger objective of a prosperous, secular, democratic and egalitarian Tamil Nadu, that the Communist Party of India has decided to extend its support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for the formation of the government. The CPI and the Left movement have always been an intrinsic part of the social, cultural and political life of Tamil Nadu, standing firmly with workers, peasants, youth, women and all oppressed sections. We shall continue to uphold the interests of the people, defend democratic values and raise the voice of the voiceless both inside and outside the legislature.

لقد منح شعب تاميل نادو تفويضه لصالح حزب «تاميلاغا فيتري كازاغام» بقيادة جوزيف فيجاي. وفي النظام الديمقراطي البرلماني، يجب احترام إرادة الشعب نصاً وروحاً. إن محاولة حزب بهاراتيا جاناتا (BJP) خلق حالة من عدم اليقين عبر المناورات الخلفية واستغلال منصب الحاكم، بدل دعوة الحزب الأكبر لتشكيل الحكومة وإثبات أغلبيته داخل الجمعية التشريعية، تُعد سلوكاً غير ديمقراطي وينم عن عدم احترام للشعب. فمسألة الأغلبية يجب أن تُحسم داخل البرلمان، لا عبر التلاعب السياسي خلف جدران مقر الحاكم.

تمتلك تاميل نادو إرثاً سياسياً واجتماعياً عريقاً تشكّل عبر النضالات من أجل حقوق العمال، والوئام الطائفي، والعقلانية، والعدالة الاجتماعية، والفيدرالية، والمساواة. وهذه القيم متجذرة بعمق في وعي شعب الولاية. ويرى الحزب الشيوعي الهندي بحزم أن سياسة وأيديولوجية تحالف «آر إس إس - بي جي بي» تتعارض مع هذا الإرث التاريخي وتشكل تهديداً خطيراً للانسجام الاجتماعي، والطابع العلماني، والنهج الديمقراطي في تاميل نادو. لقد رفض الشعب محاولات إثارة الانقسام الطائفي وتفتيت المجتمع، وصوّت على أساس توقعه تشكيل حكومة تعكس هذا الخيار الشعبي. ولا يجوز استخدام التعقيدات القانونية والتفسيرات الانتقائية كأداة لفتح المجال أمام حزب BJP في ولاية رفض شعبها باستمرار سياساته الانقسامية. ويتوقع الحزب الشيوعي الهندي من الحكومة المقبلة بقيادة حزب TVK أن تحافظ على هذه القيم التاريخية وتعززها في الحكم والحياة العامة، وأن تظل ملتزمة بتطلعات شعب تاميل نادو.

وانطلاقاً من هذا الفهم، ومن الهدف الأوسع المتمثل في بناء تاميل نادو مزدهرة وعلمانية وديمقراطية ومساواتية، قرر الحزب الشيوعي الهندي تقديم دعمه لحزب «تاميلاغا فيتري كازاغام» من أجل تشكيل الحكومة. لقد كان الحزب الشيوعي الهندي والحركة اليسارية دائماً جزءاً أصيلاً من الحياة الاجتماعية والثقافية والسياسية في تاميل نادو، ووقفا بثبات إلى جانب العمال والفلاحين والشباب والنساء وجميع الفئات المضطهدة. وسنواصل الدفاع عن مصالح الشعب، وحماية القيم الديمقراطية، وإيصال صوت من لا صوت لهم داخل البرلمان وخارجه.
