The Secretariat of the African Movement today is deeply concerned about the erasure of basic morality in many parts of the African continent.

The Pan Africanism Today Secretariat is deeply concerned about erasing fundamental decencies in many parts of the African Continent.
In the past week, we have been appalled by the brazen actions of unpopular and anti-democratic African governments, who are trampling on the rights of their people. Three specific instances demand our immediate attention:
1. Yesterday, we were deeply disturbed to learn that the leader of the opposition in Zambia, Dr Fred M’membe, was unjustly arrested on fabricated charges. Dr M’membe has been subjected to a pattern of harassment, with multiple arrests under false pretences, interrogation in remote police stations, and no substantial evidence against him. These arrests are nothing but a crude form of intimidation.
2. Similarly, yesterday, activists from the Communist Party of Kenya and the Mathare Social Justice Centre (Kinuthia Ndung’u, George Kiritu, Davis Tafari, and Samuel Gathanga) were arrested for articulating the will of the Kenyan people against the backdrop of William Ruto’s insistence on using his elected office to represent the IMF instead of the Kenyan People.
3. Earlier this week, the regime Mswati III in Swaziland, through proxies, initiated a witch-hunt for comrade Mlungisi Makhanya, the president of PUDEMO. They are offering a reward of R400 000 to anyone who can arrest this important leader of the struggle for democracy in Swaziland.
We join all peace-loving people in the world in denouncing this repression. Countries cannot be run as though we are characters in a fictional gangster film. The regimes of Kenya, Zambia and Swaziland are unpatriotic and have placed the interests of international exploiters over the will of their people. Those fighting for their people's freedom must be celebrated, not arrested and bullied.
We urge all progressive formations to stand in solidarity with our comrades and issue statements condemning these acts of repression!

أيها الرفاق والأصدقاء الأعزاء، إن سكرتارية الحركة الأفريقية اليوم تشعر بقلق عميق إزاء محو الأخلاق الأساسية في العديد من أجزاء القارة الأفريقية.
في الأسبوع الماضي، شعرنا بالفزع إزاء الأفعال الوقحة التي تقوم بها الحكومات الأفريقية غير الشعبية والمعادية للديمقراطية، والتي تدوس على حقوق شعوبها. وتتطلب ثلاث حالات محددة اهتمامنا الفوري:
1. بالأمس، شعرنا بقلق عميق عندما علمنا أن زعيم المعارضة في زامبيا، الدكتور فريد ميمبي، قد تم اعتقاله ظلماً بتهم ملفقة. لقد تعرض الدكتور ميمبي لنمط من المضايقات، مع اعتقالات متعددة بحجج كاذبة، واستجوابه في مراكز شرطة نائية، وعدم وجود أدلة قوية ضده. إن هذه الاعتقالات ليست سوى شكل فظ من الترهيب.
2. وعلى نحو مماثل، اعتُقِل أمس ناشطون من الحزب الشيوعي الكيني ومركز ماثاري للعدالة الاجتماعية (كينوثيا ندونجو، وجورج كيريتو، وديفيس تافاري، وصامويل جاثانجا) بسبب التعبير عن إرادة الشعب الكيني على خلفية إصرار ويليام روتو على استخدام منصبه المنتخب لتمثيل صندوق النقد الدولي بدلاً من الشعب الكيني.
3. وفي وقت سابق من هذا الأسبوع، بدأ نظام مسواتي الثالث في سوازيلاند، من خلال وكلائه، حملة مطاردة ساحرات ضد الرفيق ملونجيسي ماخانيا، رئيس حزب الحركة الديمقراطية الشعبية في سوازيلاند. وهم يعرضون مكافأة قدرها 400 ألف راند لمن يستطيع اعتقال هذا الزعيم المهم في النضال من أجل الديمقراطية في سوازيلاند.
ونحن ننضم إلى كل محبي السلام في العالم في إدانة هذا القمع. فلا يجوز إدارة البلدان وكأننا شخصيات في فيلم خيالي عن العصابات. إن أنظمة كينيا وزامبيا وسوازيلاند غير وطنية وقد وضعت مصالح المستغلين الدوليين فوق إرادة شعوبها. يجب تكريم أولئك الذين يقاتلون من أجل حرية شعبهم، وليس اعتقالهم أو التنمر عليهم.
نحث جميع التشكيلات التقدمية على التضامن مع رفاقنا وإصدار بيانات تدين هذه الأعمال القمعية!
