For a new year of justice

2025 is leaving us with an enormous toll the peoples of the world are feeling as a result of genocide and the Zionist attacks on several countries in the Middle East. Also, environmental disasters like bushfires and the most recent hurricanes that devastated countries in the Caribbean among them Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba, and closer to home, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka.
This year also saw workers mobilising for workers’ rights, for the return of the CFMEU to its members, solidarity with Palestine and most recently Venezuela. At time of writing, the threat of a US military invasion on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela remains high. Our party and activists have expressed solidarity and strong condemnation of the US as part of the Hands-Off Venezuela campaign.
We also condemn the Polish government’s new laws trying to ban the communist Party of Poland and anything “communist”; it is fascist legislation.
On 28th October, Cuba received, again, a majority support of 165 countries at the UN General Assembly. This is the 33rd consecutive time the world has supported socialist Cuba and condemned the criminal US blockade.
This year Cuba alerted the international community that the Trump administration was threatening and lobbying a number of countries to vote against or abstain from the Cuban resolution. A number of traditional supporters abstained this time while others like Ukraine, Argentina, Paraguay, North Macedonia, and Hungary joined the United States and Israel in favour of the 60+ year old policy.
The CPA stands firmly with the Cuban people in their right to self determination and we will continue the solidarity work until the US comes to its senses and the blockade is lifted.
A key campaign for party members for the last two years has been the end of the Zionist occupation in Palestine. The CPA demands that our government backs up its decision to recognise an independent Palestinian state with action. We reaffirm our commitment to the people of Palestine and their right to decide their own future. On Sunday 7 December the CPA spoke out once again demanding the end of genocide and its support by the Albanese government.
Our party will hold its 15th National Congress in Melbourne at the end of February 2026. The long process of party-wide discussion across branches has seen party organisations electing their Congress delegates who will take the role of Party leadership to decide the way forward for the period ahead.
It is an exciting period for all party members, in particular those who joined since the 14th Congress in 2022. For all of us this is a rich period to learn more about our own organisation that celebrated 105 years of struggle on 30th October 2025 and help shape it going forward.
Close to 100 people joined the online celebration that our comrades in Canberra organised making us very proud. Keynote speaker, Peter Limb, made a great contribution. We also heard from comrades across the country. It was particularly important to us to share this celebration with diplomatic representatives from the People’s Republic of China, Cuba, Venezuela, and written messages from Lao, DPRK, and other solidarity organisations. This was also just days before the 50th anniversary of the Dismissal of the Whitlam government. There are many lessons to learn from those events; among them the struggle to become a republic, for an independent foreign policy, and an end to US bases on Australian soil. Pine Gap as we know played a role in the dismissal and also plays a key role for the US war machine and undermining Australian sovereignty to this day.
The struggle in 2026 will not be any easier. In fact, the fight for peace and the environment will demand more effort from party members and the community.
We will continue to campaign against senseless AUKUS and other agreements that commit Australia to more US wars in the Pacific and elsewhere.
We will build on the successes of 2025. Our party will continue to grow with new branches and comrades who will take up the mantle of action and struggle for social change.
Whatever we do in 2026, the struggle must continue for a better world.
I wish all our party members, friends and supporters as well as our loyal Guardian readers the very best in the new year 2026. A year we hope will be of justice for all.

يودّعنا عام 2025 بحصيلة هائلة تشعر بها شعوب العالم نتيجة الإبادة الجماعية والهجمات الصهيونية على عدة بلدان في الشرق الأوسط. كما شهدنا كوارث بيئية، من حرائق الغابات إلى أحدث الأعاصير التي دمّرت بلدانًا في منطقة الكاريبي، من بينها جامايكا وهايتي وكوبا، وكذلك أقرب إلينا الفلبين وفيتنام وسريلانكا.
وشهد هذا العام أيضًا تحركات عمالية دفاعًا عن حقوق العمال، ومن أجل إعادة نقابة CFMEU إلى أعضائها، والتضامن مع فلسطين، ومؤخرًا مع فنزويلا. وفي وقت كتابة هذه السطور، ما يزال خطر غزو عسكري أمريكي للجمهورية البوليفارية الفنزويلية مرتفعًا. وقد عبّر حزبنا ونشطاءه عن تضامنهم وأدانوا بشدة الولايات المتحدة في إطار حملة «ارفعوا أيديكم عن فنزويلا».
كما ندين القوانين الجديدة للحكومة البولندية التي تسعى إلى حظر الحزب الشيوعي البولندي وكل ما هو «شيوعي»؛ إنها تشريعات فاشية.
في 28 أكتوبر، حصلت كوبا مرة أخرى على دعم أغلبية قوامها 165 دولة في الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة. وهذه هي المرة الثالثة والثلاثون على التوالي التي يدعم فيها العالم كوبا الاشتراكية ويدين الحصار الأمريكي الإجرامي.
وقد نبّهت كوبا هذا العام المجتمع الدولي إلى أن إدارة ترامب كانت تهدد وتضغط على عدد من الدول للتصويت ضد القرار الكوبي أو الامتناع عنه. وقد امتنعت هذه المرة بعض الدول التي اعتادت دعم كوبا، فيما انضمت دول أخرى مثل أوكرانيا والأرجنتين وباراغواي ومقدونيا الشمالية والمجر إلى الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل تأييدًا لسياسة مضى عليها أكثر من ستين عامًا.
يقف الحزب الشيوعي الأسترالي (CPA) بثبات إلى جانب الشعب الكوبي في حقه في تقرير مصيره، وسنواصل عمل التضامن إلى أن تعود الولايات المتحدة إلى رشدها ويُرفع الحصار.
وكانت حملة إنهاء الاحتلال الصهيوني في فلسطين إحدى الحملات الأساسية لأعضاء الحزب خلال العامين الماضيين. ويطالب الحزب حكومتنا بأن تدعم قرارها الاعتراف بدولة فلسطينية مستقلة بخطوات عملية. ونجدّد التزامنا تجاه الشعب الفلسطيني وحقه في تقرير مستقبله بنفسه. وفي يوم الأحد 7 ديسمبر، عبّر الحزب مرة أخرى عن مطالبته بإنهاء الإبادة الجماعية ورفضه دعم حكومة ألبانيزي لها.
سيعقد حزبنا مؤتمره الوطني الخامس عشر في ملبورن في نهاية فبراير 2026. وقد شهدت العملية الطويلة للنقاش الحزبي عبر الفروع انتخاب مندوبي المؤتمر الذين سيتولّون دور القيادة الحزبية لتقرير المسار في المرحلة المقبلة.
إنها فترة مثيرة لجميع أعضاء الحزب، ولا سيما الذين انضموا منذ المؤتمر الرابع عشر عام 2022. وبالنسبة لنا جميعًا، فهي مرحلة غنية للتعرّف أكثر على منظمتنا التي احتفلت في 30 أكتوبر 2025 بمرور 105 أعوام على نضالها، والمساهمة في رسم ملامحها للمستقبل.
شارك قرابة 100 شخص في الاحتفال عبر الإنترنت الذي نظّمه رفاقنا في كانبيرا، وهو ما جعلنا فخورين جدًا. وقد قدّم المتحدث الرئيسي، بيتر ليمب، مساهمة قيّمة، كما استمعنا إلى كلمات من رفاق من مختلف أنحاء البلاد. وكان من المهم بالنسبة لنا أن نشارك هذا الاحتفال مع ممثلين دبلوماسيين عن جمهورية الصين الشعبية وكوبا وفنزويلا، إضافة إلى رسائل مكتوبة من لاوس وكوريا الديمقراطية (DPRK) ومنظمات تضامن أخرى. ويتوفر تسجيل الفعالية على قناة الحزب على يوتيوب.
وجاء ذلك قبل أيام قليلة من الذكرى الخمسين لإقالة حكومة ويتلام. وهناك دروس كثيرة يمكن استخلاصها من تلك الأحداث، من بينها النضال من أجل التحول إلى جمهورية، واعتماد سياسة خارجية مستقلة، وإنهاء وجود القواعد الأمريكية على الأراضي الأسترالية. وقد لعبت قاعدة باين غاب، كما هو معروف، دورًا في تلك الإقالة، ولا تزال حتى اليوم تؤدي دورًا محوريًا في آلة الحرب الأمريكية وتقويض السيادة الأسترالية.
لن يكون النضال في عام 2026 أسهل؛ بل إن الكفاح من أجل السلام والبيئة سيتطلب جهدًا أكبر من أعضاء الحزب والمجتمع.
سنواصل حملتنا ضد اتفاقية أوكوس العبثية وغيرها من الاتفاقات التي تزجّ بأستراليا في مزيد من الحروب الأمريكية في المحيط الهادئ وفي أماكن أخرى.
سنبني على إنجازات عام 2025، وسيواصل حزبنا النمو عبر فروع جديدة ورفاق جدد يحملون راية الفعل والنضال من أجل التغيير الاجتماعي.
مهما كان ما سنقوم به في عام 2026، يجب أن يستمر النضال من أجل عالم أفضل.
أتمنى لجميع أعضاء حزبنا وأصدقائنا وأنصارنا، وكذلك لقرّاء «الغارديان» الأوفياء، كل التوفيق في العام الجديد 2026، عامًا نأمل أن يكون عام العدالة للجميع.
