Strengthening Hindutva-Zionist Nexus Behind India's Abstention from Latest UN Statement Criticising Israel!
As part of the intensifying Hindutva-Zionist nexus, whose shared ideological basis is anti-Muslimness or Islamophobia, India has abstained from the 17 Feburary Joint Statement by 85 Countries at the UN criticising Israel's tightening illegal control over the West Bank. Among other things, the Statement says: "We strongly condemn unilateral Israeli decisions and measures aimed at expanding Israel's unlawful presence in the West Bank." This disgraceful position taken by India is linked with Modi's scheduled visit to Israel on 25 February and also in view of Hindutva regime's renewed servility to US, as the Trump-led Board of Peace is to meet in Washington.
No doubt, this is not an overnight development. Under the Modi regime, India has been abstaining from a series of UN Resolutions against Israeli criminalities on Palestinians. This has been more specific during the last two years. Instances are October 2023 UNGA that called for an immediate truce in the Israeli-Hamas conflict, December 2023 UN vote seeking legal opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel's "prolonged occupation", June 2025 UNGA calling for an "immediate, unconditional and permanent" ceasefire in Gaza, etc. Though there had been a post Cold war neoliberal dilution in India's firm solidarity with Palestine, since the 1990s, the strategic shift in India's alliance towards the Zionist regime took place with the ascendence of Modi regime in 2014 and Modi's visit to Israel in 2017 - the first Indian prime minister to do so.
Of course, India had a glorious stance regarding the Palestine question that was inseparably linked up with India's erstwhile anti-colonial position and solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world. It was based on this perspective that Mahatma Gandhi, 'Father of the Nation', resolutely opposed the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine in 1938 itself , calling it "wrong and inhumane". He argued that Palestine belonged to the indigenous Arabs and that forcing a state there with imperialist aid was a crime against humanity. Gandhi had unequivocally stated: "Palestine belongs to the Arabs in the same sense that England belongs to the English or France to the French". Gandhi was against Zionism and viewed the Zionist project in Palestine as an imperialist, settler-colonial imposition. To be precise, during the anti-colonial struggle and in the Nehruvian period and as part of the Non-Aligned Movement, India consistently stood in solidarity with the Palestinians and oppressed Arab peoples. For instance, India was the first non-Arab country to recognize the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1974 and among the first to recognize the State of Palestine in 1988.
True, when the broad anti-colonial stream in India remained opposed to Zionism, the RSS, whose 'cultural nationalism' is a cover for colonial-imperialist servitude, has been upholding a Hindutva narrative regarding this from its very inception. Both Savarkar and Golwalkar were sympathetic to Zionist cause and viewed Zionism or political Judaism as a model for Hindu Rashtra based on the ideology of Hindutva or political Hinduism. Today under the Modi regime led by the BJP, the political tool of RSS, India's strategic partnership, encompassing economic and military deals, with the Zionist regime are perfectly in tune with this Hindutva perception. And, the clamour for “Hindutva India" and ”Zionist Israel” and strengthening Saffron-Zionist nexus with deeper anti-Muslim ideological underpinnings have become the dominant political discourse in Indian neofascist situation.
Now the Joint Statement by 85 countries has, in essence, exposed Trump's Board of Peace and opposes Israeli moves under its cover to alter the demographic composition and status of the entire Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. However Modi regime's refusal to join this initiative has become ignominious. Revealingly, India is the only founder-member of BRICS that stays out of the initiative which was endorsed even by European Union and Quad partners, including Japan and Australia.
Meanwhile, consequent on widespread criticism and isolation among the comity of nations, as a belated face-saving exercise, and as a second thought, even while remaining out of the Joint Statement by 85 countries, India is reported to have added its name to the list of countries criticising Israel's unilateral moves on the West Bank. By this 'face-saving'move', India avoided a situation of antagonizing both the Zionist regime and the US imperialist master. And, Modi's upcoming visit to Israel points to a further neofascist reinforcement of the Hindutva-Zionist nexus.
We appeal to all progressive-democratic forces who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people to come forward against this condemnable pro-Zionist move by the Modi regime.

تعزيز الترابط الهندوتفـي–الصهيوني وراء امتناع الهند عن أحدث بيان أممي ينتقد إسرائيل!
في إطار تعاظم الترابط الهندوتفي–الصهيوني، الذي يقوم أساسه الأيديولوجي المشترك على العداء للمسلمين أو الإسلاموفوبيا، امتنعت الهند عن الانضمام إلى البيان المشترك الصادر في 17 فبراير عن 85 دولة في الأمم المتحدة، والذي ينتقد تشديد إسرائيل سيطرتها غير القانونية على الضفة الغربية. ويقول البيان، من بين أمور أخرى: «نُدين بشدة القرارات والإجراءات الإسرائيلية الأحادية الهادفة إلى توسيع الوجود غير القانوني لإسرائيل في الضفة الغربية». إن هذا الموقف المخزي الذي اتخذته الهند يرتبط بزيارة مودي المقررة إلى إسرائيل في 25 فبراير، وكذلك في ضوء تجدد تبعية نظام الهندوتفا للولايات المتحدة، حيث من المقرر أن يجتمع “مجلس السلام” الذي يقوده ترامب في واشنطن.
لا شك أن هذا التطور لم يحدث بين ليلة وضحاها. ففي ظل نظام مودي، امتنعت الهند عن سلسلة من قرارات الأمم المتحدة التي تدين الجرائم الإسرائيلية بحق الفلسطينيين، وقد أصبح ذلك أكثر وضوحًا خلال العامين الأخيرين. ومن الأمثلة على ذلك: تصويت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في أكتوبر 2023 الداعي إلى هدنة فورية في الصراع الإسرائيلي–حماس، وتصويت ديسمبر 2023 الذي طلب رأيًا قانونيًا من محكمة العدل الدولية بشأن «الاحتلال المطوّل» لإسرائيل، وتصويت الجمعية العامة في يونيو 2025 الداعي إلى وقف «فوري وغير مشروط ودائم» لإطلاق النار في غزة، وغيرها. ورغم أن التضامن الهندي الثابت مع فلسطين قد تعرّض منذ تسعينيات القرن الماضي لتخفيف نيوليبرالي في مرحلة ما بعد الحرب الباردة، فإن التحول الاستراتيجي في تحالفات الهند باتجاه النظام الصهيوني وقع مع صعود نظام مودي إلى السلطة عام 2014 وزيارة مودي لإسرائيل عام 2017، كأول رئيس وزراء هندي يقوم بذلك.
ومن المؤكد أن للهند موقفًا مجيدًا إزاء قضية فلسطين، كان مرتبطًا ارتباطًا وثيقًا بموقفها المناهض للاستعمار وتضامنها مع الشعوب المضطهدة في العالم. وانطلاقًا من هذا المنظور، عارض المهاتما غاندي، «أبو الأمة»، بحزم إنشاء دولة يهودية في فلسطين منذ عام 1938، واصفًا ذلك بأنه «خاطئ وغير إنساني». وجادل بأن فلسطين ملكٌ للعرب الأصليين، وأن فرض دولة هناك بمساعدة إمبريالية يُعد جريمة ضد الإنسانية. وقد صرّح غاندي بوضوح: «فلسطين للعرب بالمعنى نفسه الذي تنتمي به إنجلترا للإنجليز أو فرنسا للفرنسيين». كان غاندي مناهضًا للصهيونية، ورأى المشروع الصهيوني في فلسطين كفرضٍ إمبريالي استيطاني–استعماري. وعلى وجه الدقة، خلال نضالها المناهض للاستعمار وفي الحقبة النهروية وضمن حركة عدم الانحياز، وقفت الهند باستمرار متضامنة مع الفلسطينيين والشعوب العربية المضطهدة. فعلى سبيل المثال، كانت الهند أول دولة غير عربية تعترف بمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية عام 1974، ومن أوائل الدول التي اعترفت بدولة فلسطين عام 1988.
صحيح أنه بينما ظل التيار الواسع المناهض للاستعمار في الهند معارضًا للصهيونية، فإن منظمة RSS، التي يُعد «قوميّتها الثقافية» غطاءً للتبعية الاستعمارية–الإمبريالية، كانت منذ نشأتها تروّج لرواية هندوتفية حول هذه القضية. فقد أبدى كل من سافاركار وغولوالكار تعاطفًا مع القضية الصهيونية، واعتبرا الصهيونية أو اليهودية السياسية نموذجًا لدولة «هندوراشترا» القائمة على أيديولوجيا الهندوتفا أو الهندوسية السياسية. واليوم، في ظل نظام مودي الذي يقوده حزب بهاراتيا جاناتا، الأداة السياسية لـRSS، تأتي الشراكة الاستراتيجية للهند مع النظام الصهيوني—بما تشمل من صفقات اقتصادية وعسكرية—متناغمة تمامًا مع هذا التصور الهندوتفي. كما أصبح الترويج لـ«الهند الهندوتفية» و«إسرائيل الصهيونية»، وتعزيز الترابط الزعفراني–الصهيوني ذي الأسس الأيديولوجية الأعمق المعادية للمسلمين، الخطاب السياسي السائد في الوضع النيوفاشي الهندي.
واليوم، فإن البيان المشترك الصادر عن 85 دولة قد كشف في جوهره «مجلس السلام» لترامب، وناهض التحركات الإسرائيلية التي تتم تحت غطائه لتغيير التركيبة الديموغرافية ووضع كامل الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة منذ عام 1967، بما فيها القدس الشرقية. غير أن رفض نظام مودي الانضمام إلى هذه المبادرة أصبح موقفًا مُهينًا. واللافت أن الهند هي العضو المؤسس الوحيد في مجموعة بريكس الذي بقي خارج هذه المبادرة، التي أيّدها حتى الاتحاد الأوروبي وشركاء «كواد»، بما فيهم اليابان وأستراليا.
وفي الأثناء، وبفعل الانتقادات الواسعة والعزلة داخل أسرة الأمم، وفي محاولة متأخرة لحفظ ماء الوجه، وكفكرة ثانية، ورغم بقائها خارج البيان المشترك لـ85 دولة، أفادت التقارير بأن الهند أضافت اسمها إلى قائمة الدول التي تنتقد التحركات الإسرائيلية الأحادية في الضفة الغربية. وبهذه الخطوة «التجميليّة»، تجنّبت الهند الوقوع في موقف معاداة كلٍّ من النظام الصهيوني وسيده الإمبريالي الأمريكي. وتشير الزيارة المرتقبة لمودي إلى إسرائيل إلى مزيد من التعزيز النيوفاشي للترابط الهندوتفي–الصهيوني.
إننا نناشد جميع القوى التقدمية–الديمقراطية المتضامنة مع الشعب الفلسطيني أن تتقدّم لمواجهة هذا الموقف المُدان المؤيد للصهيونية الذي يتخذه نظام مودي.
