The Communist Party USA mourns the loss of Dolly Parton, a working class woman who was known not only for her remarkable musical contributions but also for who she was as a person. Through her music and the way she carried herself through the world, she brought joy and encouragement to millions, while never losing sight of where she came from or the struggles of ordinary people. Her warmth, generosity, humor, and courage inspire us all.
Dolly devoted much of her wealth and influence to improving the lives of working people. She consistently spoke out against racism, sexism, and homophobia. Through her Imagination Library, she helped put millions of books into the hands of children. She supported disaster relief, COVID-19 research, and education, and she even used royalties from Whitney Houston’s recording of “I Will Always Love You” to invest in a Black community in Nashville.
Dolly was never afraid to stand up for people who were left behind. Through her music, philanthropy, and public voice, she showed us that compassion and solidarity are powerful forces.
We share in the grief felt around the world at her passing. The working class has lost one of its brightest and boldest heroes.
