The Delhi units of INDIA Bloc parties held a protest demonstration outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office at Kashmere Gate against the exclusion of lakhs of eligible voters from the electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Hundreds gathered to demand the ouster of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the immediate scrapping of SIR, restoration of the names of all eligible voters excluded from the rolls, protection of voting rights, and restoration of public confidence in the electoral process. State leaders of the INDIA Bloc parties jointly submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the Chief Electoral Officer, listing out the demands. CPI(M) Delhi State Secretary Anurag Saxena said no living and eligible citizen should be deprived of their right to vote. He stressed that electoral rolls are the foundation of democracy and that the exclusion of eligible voters through a complicated notice and verification process is a serious threat to democratic rights. The INDIA Bloc reaffirmed that it will continue to democratically oppose every attempt to deprive eligible citizens of their right to vote.
