 The Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep anguish over the loss of 20 precious young lives during the GenZ protests in Nepal. These protests reflect the widespread anger stemming from the growing grievances of the people, particularly the youth, against the repeated failures of successive governments to resolve their genuine problems and meet their aspirations.

Rampant corruption among ruling circles, mounting unemployment and lack of job opportunities for the predominantly young population are among the major causes behind the GenZ protests, which erupted following the ban on social media platforms. With the ouster of the KP Oli government, efforts to restore peace and normalcy must be pursued with seriousness. This is all the more essential in light of the mob violence directed against leading political functionaries. Particularly condemnable is the deadly assault on Rajyalakshmi Chitrakar, the wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is currently critical and battling for life.

The grievances of the youth of Nepal need to be heard immediately and effective steps must be taken to address them. At the same time, care must be taken to safeguard the democratic and secular values enshrined in the Constitution, which was achieved through a long and hard-fought struggle against monarchy. The youth and democratic forces in Nepal should remain vigilant to ensure that the situation is not exploited by Royalists and other reactionary forces. The outcome of these mass protests must be a democratic renewal, not a relapse into feudal authoritarian rule.

إن تفشّي الفساد في أوساط السلطة، وتفاقم البطالة، وانعدام فرص العمل أمام الفئة الشابة التي تشكل الغالبية السكانية، كلها من أبرز أسباب اندلاع احتجاجات الجيل زد، التي تفجرت بعد حظر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي. ومع سقوط حكومة كاي بي أولي، يجب التعامل بجدية مع الجهود الرامية إلى استعادة السلام والاستقرار. وتزداد هذه الحاجة إلحاحاً في ظل أعمال العنف الجماهيري التي استهدفت شخصيات سياسية بارزة. ومن أشد ما يُدان الاعتداء المميت على راجيالاكسمي شيتراكار، زوجة رئيس الوزراء الأسبق جهلاناث خانال، التي ترقد حالياً في حالة حرجة تصارع من أجل حياتها.

إن مظالم شباب نيبال يجب أن تُسمع فوراً، ويجب اتخاذ خطوات فعالة لمعالجتها. وفي الوقت نفسه، لا بد من الحرص على حماية القيم الديمقراطية والعَلمانية المكرسة في الدستور، الذي تحقق بفضل نضال طويل وشاق ضد الحكم الملكي. وعلى الشباب والقوى الديمقراطية في نيبال أن يظلوا يقظين لضمان عدم استغلال الوضع من قبل الملكيين وقوى رجعية أخرى. إن ثمرة هذه الاحتجاجات الشعبية يجب أن تكون تجديداً ديمقراطياً، لا انتكاسة إلى حكم إقطاعي استبدادي.
